  • On Thursday, May 5, we met at the Bird House at Homer and Earlene Hutto's place, Cedar Gap Farm, for the annual meeting of the Big Country Audubon Society. Laura brought ham and baked beans, and others brought salads, vegetables, drinks, and desserts. The food was wonderful, and we all had a marvelous time watching the birds.
  • Dr. John Estes mentioned that he had seen five to seven male painted buntings all at the same time around the Bird House. We also saw rabbits, deer, chickadees, titmice, cardinals, blue jays, lark sparrows, towhees, and a number of other bird and mammal species.
  • When it was time to go home, we walked out the door into a beautiful sunset. Several of us took pictures. I would have taken more pictures during the meal, but John English was taking pictures, and since he is a professional wildlife photographer, I felt my pictures would pale in contrast. I now wish I had taken additional pictures so that I would have more for our web page.
