El Salto & El Meco 2004

  • We were quite taken by the early morning beauty and loud roar of the falls just past El Meco on our way to El Salto from El Naranjo. Laura saw some new birds there and we couldn't stop taking pictures.
  • The name "El Salto" means "The Plunge". El Salto de Agua means waterfall, which it was before they diverted the stream to power a hydroelectric plant. Some water still comes down, and the pools at the bottom were gorgeous.
  • We saw beautiful parrots and parakeets, as well as an Amazon Kingfisher just after he had caught a minnow (got the pictures to prove it!). And we got a far, far away look at a Crane Hawk.
